Starting Your Care Journey with Tori, Our Family Liaison at Kanesbury Care
Beginning the search for care can feel overwhelming, but you don’t have to navigate it alone. At Kanesbury Care, we’re here to guide you through each step with clarity, kindness and reassurance. Below is a simple guide to the steps families typically take when arranging care with us.
Starting the Conversation with Your Loved One
Starting the conversation about care can feel daunting, but taking that first step is an important part of finding the right support. It’s best approached with sensitivity, openness, and reassurance.
When beginning the conversation, it can help to:
- choose a calm, relaxed moment to talk
- listen to any concerns or worries
- reassure them about maintaining independence and quality of life
- focus on the benefits of additional support and social connection
Taking things at a comfortable pace and involving your loved one in the process can help them feel more confident and in control of the next steps.
A Gentle, Supportive First Phone Call
Your first conversation with our Family Liaison, Tori, is relaxed, informative and completely without pressure. It’s an opportunity to talk through your situation, ask questions, and begin to understand what the right care might look like for you or your loved one.
During the call, you may discuss:
- Your current situation and care needs
- The type of support you’re exploring
- Which of our homes may be the best fit
- What daily life in our homes looks like
- The next steps, including visits and assessments
Tori will guide the conversation at your pace, ensuring you feel listened to, reassured and clear on what happens next.
Visiting Your Chosen Home
Once you feel ready, we invite you to visit Kanesbury Care and see the home for yourself. Meeting the team and experiencing the environment in person can help families feel confident in their decision.
During your visit you will be able to:
- take a tour of the home and facilities
- meet members of the care team
- learn about daily life for residents
- discuss care needs and preferences
This is also a good opportunity to ask questions about the admission process and care planning.
A Second Visit to Help Your Loved One Feel at Ease
Moving into care can be a big transition, so many families find it helpful to visit more than once. A second visit allows your loved one to become more familiar with the environment and the people who will be supporting them.
This step often helps residents feel more relaxed and comfortable before moving in.
A Personalised Care Assessment
Before a resident moves in, our team carries out a detailed care assessment. This ensures we fully understand the individual’s needs so we can provide the right level of support.
During the assessment we discuss:
- medical history and care requirements
- daily routines and personal preferences
- mobility and wellbeing needs
- dietary requirements and lifestyle choices
This information allows us to create a personalised care plan tailored to the resident.
Confirming Admission and Preparing to Move
Once the assessment has been completed and everyone feels comfortable moving forward, we will guide you through the practical steps of admission.
This may include:
- completing admission paperwork
- confirming funding arrangements
- agreeing a move-in date
- preparing the resident’s room
Our team will be on hand to answer any questions and ensure the process feels straightforward and supportive.
A Warm and Welcoming Move-In Day
Moving into a care home is an important moment for residents and their families. Our team works closely with you to make the transition as comfortable and reassuring as possible.
We help residents settle in by:
- introducing them to the team and other residents
- supporting them to personalise their room
- helping them become familiar with daily routines and activities
Our aim is always to help residents feel safe, supported and truly at home from the very beginning.
Ongoing Learning & Support with Specialist 'Gemma Jones' Training
We believe supporting families goes beyond care alone. Through our quarterly workshops led by Dr Gemma Jones, we offer guidance, education and practical advice to help you better understand your loved one’s needs.
These sessions provide a supportive space to learn more about dementia and care, ask questions and feel more confident in navigating this journey together.
Ongoing Support with Your Family Liaison
Once move-in day is complete, our support doesn’t stop there. You’ll have ongoing contact with your dedicated Family Liaison, providing a consistent and reassuring point of contact for both you and your loved one.
They will be on hand to answer questions, offer guidance and support as everyone settles into this new chapter. Through regular check-ins, informal coffee morning catch-ups and opportunities to connect, we ensure you always feel informed, supported and confident that your loved one is happy and well cared for.
Become Part of a Supportive Community
At Kanesbury Care, we believe in creating a true sense of community for both residents and their families. Through a series of thoughtfully hosted events, we bring people together in a relaxed and welcoming environment.
From wine tastings to seasonal gatherings, these moments offer the chance to connect, share experiences and build supportive relationships with others who are on a similar journey — helping you feel less alone and more supported every step of the way.
